Milwaukee

Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin with a population of approximately 578,350. Milwaukee was once home to many breweries and thus, the city’s professional baseball team is named the Brewers. However, only the Miller Brewing Company remains while the city’s culture is still deeply rooted in the brewing industry. The Germans were responsible for the original growth of Milwaukee as brewing was the backbone of the Milwaukee economy during the mid-1800s.

Climate

The months of June, July, and August all have average high temperatures that are above 75 degrees with Milwaukee’s hottest month, July, having an average high of 80 degrees and an average low of 62 degrees. The coldest month in Milwaukee is January with an average high temperature of 27 degrees and an average low of 12 degrees. During the months of December, January, and February, the average high temperature never climbs above freezing, making for some very cold winters.

Culture

The Milwaukee County Zoo, the Midwest Express Center, and the Milwaukee Public Museum are all popular tourist attractions in Milwaukee. The Water Street Entertainment Center and the Third Ward are the places to visit in Milwaukee for those visitors looking for great bars, food, and nightlife.

Water Fun

Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River are home to some great cruises for those that are looking for fun in the water. For those that are looking to actually get into the water, Lake Michigan is also a great place to swim. However, water temperatures are frequently only in the 50s and 60s even during the warmest summer months.

Intrigued with Guinness Book of World Records? Plan a visit to the Allen-Bradley Company Clock which holds the distinction of being the world’s largest four-faced clock. Once upon a time in Milwaukee, the Harley Davidson Company got its start as a simple backyard bike operation, but today the company is a popular tourist destination and makes a great day trip. Those travelers who are big on sports can take in a Milwaukee Bucks game. The Bucks represent the city in the National Basketball Association. For a bit of history that relates to Milwaukee’s brewing roots, travelers can visit the 37-room Flemish Renaissance style mansion that was owned by famous brewer Captain Fredrick Pabst.
